CONNECTIONS

June 2022 - June 2023

Art In Public Spaces. My artwork, a mixed media painting, was accepted into the year long exhibit at Southwest Florida International Airport in Ft Myers called “Connections”. My mixed media painting is about connections; connections that is, to our environment. Preserving our clean air and clean water should be our priority and promise to our planet and future generations. Water is important and symbolic, in that, it reminds us of our origins; the element from which all life emerged.

Title: Emergence

Size: 36”X36”

Mixed Media: Fabric, Acrylic, Crocheted appliquéd pieces

CONNECTIONS:

A JURIED EXHIBITION AT THE SOUTHWEST FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Art in Flight is a partnership between the Lee County Alliance for the Arts and the Lee County Port Authority, which brings art to public spaces at Southwest Florida International Airport.

In recent years, it has become increasingly important for all of us to celebrate, value, and strengthen our connections to each other and the world around us. Artists are asked to create work for this exhibition that explores this idea of connection.

Women Who Work: A Portrait Project: Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage

Building a legacy in honor of the Centennial of Women’s Suffrage, members of the WCA, FL Chapter created portraits of our local Women Who Work. We artists painted, drew and photographed thirty-six subjects.

This is a collaborative project by WCA artists (Women’s Caucus for Art). We artists honor the diversity and achievements of Saint Petersburg’s women. By bringing them out of the shadows, we honor those legions whose efforts and achievements are certain to become historical record. Women Who Work brings past to present.

This traveling exhibit first opened at Eckerd College in August 2020. Since then it has traveled to the following Florida venues: Cobb Gallery at Eckerd College, Morean Arts Center, Dunedin Fine Arts Center, Osceola Gallery at Clearwater Library, Casselberry Art House, Oldsmar City Hall, Kissimmee City Hall, and Indian Shores Municipal Building.

In May of 2023 my portrait was officially acquired by the Town of Indian Shores, FL and will be on permanent display in the Municipal Building along with the full collection.

Healing Devices

Art heals both the creator and the viewer. Healing devices, such as icons, amulets and talismans mediate and mitigate our emotional and spiritual wounds. Visionary, poetic, and musical explorations have historically shaped the creative arts.

Talismans for Healing and Hope: Series of 9 mixed media pieces each 10”X8”

1.Telisma    2.Comfort   3.Devine  4.Praise  5.Life  6.Bloom

 7.Anthe      8.Soul     9.Spirit

The Talismans For Healing and Hope series are icons and tools for meditation, reflection and contemplation.  They serve as catalysts for what is achievable through awareness, love and hope.  My work seeks to make connections and forge a new reality.

These 10”X8” mixed media canvases are made using collaged and applied elements such as paper, paint and handmade bead crochet ropes.  Each bead touches our healing needs.  The Pandemic, our reaction to it, and how the world has chosen to deal with it has created a need. We reach out and connect in ways that remind us of the importance of respect and the need for common sense and decency.

Each painting is available to purchase for $200

In 2022 HEALING DEVICES has shown at several different venues in Florida: Nielson Gallery for Visual Arts at Eckerd College, Palm Harbor Library, Carrollwood Cultural Center’s Featured Artist Gallery, and Art House in Casselberry

The Tarot Card Project

A collaborative project with Florida In Art opening at Carrollwood Cultural Center, Tampa Fl. (September 2022)

My Piece is The Chariot Card. I did two versions. The originals are 20”X16” unframed. They will be made into cards as part of an entire Tarot Deck. The Deck is available for $35

THE CHARIOT by Harriet Godbole

"In this version of The Chariot Tarot Card, my interpretation symbolizes a tall warrior's strength, control, and focused direction. In my interpretation, the warrior appearing androgynous and standing firm controls the Chariot, not with reins, but with intention. Although I did not pick this card myself, I was destined to illustrate it and learn more about its meaning. My experience with this card has been a little tumultuous since this is version two of this interpretation. A quote I found online summarizes the meaning of the card and its influence on my interpretation. The Chariot is a card about defeating conflicts and moving ahead in a positive direction. One needs to keep going on, and through sheer hard work and commitment, she/he will be triumphant."
